In 2008, the First Quality Group of diversified companies added a sister company to manufacture premium diapers for babies and toddlers, all to be made in the USA. A massive one-million-square foot facility was to be constructed in Mifflin County, with the majority of the work needing to be completed within four months.
For this one million plus square foot state-of-the-art facility, George J. Hayden, Inc. supplied a design/build, 15kV power distribution system. The plant was going to be using the latest technologies, so it was essential that there was a primary source of power for the 300-acre site. On top of adverse weather conditions and a compressed schedule, the utility company failed to provide 46kV power within the requested time frame, so a temporary 15kV line-up and a unit-substation was added. Four 13-ton pre-cast PMH foundations had to be customized and 13 unique leveling structures had to be fabricated by the Hayden team for the switchboard and switchgear housekeeping pads. The timeframe for completing most the work was four months. About 50 tons of copper wire was energized and placed into service. Hayden Electric’s technicians made up nearly 100 high voltage terminations and assured that quality control was maintained throughout extensive testing.
- The Hayden team completed the project on time and within budget, allowing the client to fulfill their sales commitment with a large, nation-wide retailer.
- The facility brought hundred of jobs to the Lewistown, Pennsylvania area.
